Ayr Model Boat Club

About Us

Ayr Model Boat Club exists because of its members’ interest in building and sailing model boats.

Over the years, the main interest has been in scale models, mostly radio controlled, although some members do build static models too.

Interests vary from electric powered vessels to steam-powered craft and yachts, and the size of the models varies from tiny to enormous, with most being around 600 - 1000 mm in length.

Pressure vessel testing and certification is carried out at the club, for steam and gas systems, and the club issues appropriate certificates for insurance purposes.

Members support one another with help and advice, and there are frequent pond side technical discussions, as well as cheerful advice on sailing.

The pond is in a public park, so it is easy to mingle with club members, admire the models, and indulge in a bit of exploratory chat.

We hold events in the pond throughout the sailing season, and members normally sail on a Sunday afternoon from 2 - 4pm, and a Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 - 4pm, when the weather is kind.

Further details of our events are to be found on the Calendar page.

If you are interested in model boats, come along and chat.  Bring your model if you have one. Ask questions; we love a challenge, and we all have an opinion.

If you would like to know more, contact one of our Committee members.
