Ayr Model Boat Club

Club 500

Club 500 events will include multi-boat racing along with timed steering competitions.

All boats entering these events must have been built to the MPBA rules, i.e., using standard motor, running gear, rudder etc. They MUST also be fitted with a foam or rubber bow protector of at least 3mm thick, the Velcro strip on the cabin roof (for number attachment) and only use either a NiMh 7.2v battery of any capacity, or a 7.4v 2 cell LiPo.

Multi-Boat Racing

The course shape and size has been amended from that as set out by the MPBA to be more suitable for the overall size and shape of the pond. Initially, a maximum of 5 boats per race, racing anti-clockwise around a more or less rectangular course. Each race would still be between 4 to 5 minutes.

Timed Steering Competitions

These will also be held regularly throughout the year. The boat with the quickest clear run average score over five of the events will be judged the overall winner. Club 500 boats will not be able to enter the Club Regatta Timed Steering Course.

Dates for all the above events will be posted in the clubhouse and the website.

If you haven’t already started, get building as a Club 500 means having a lot of fun.

John Doyle has provided us with a Build Feature in the form of supplementary notes from his own experience of building a Club 500 boat.

The object of the Feature is to support members building one of these boats, and to encourage a read-before-you-buy taster to encourage those who do not yet have a kit.

The Build Feature is now accessible via the menu at the top of the page, but because this takes the form of instructions to which you may wish to refer while actually building your boat, you can download a file to print and take to the workshop, by clicking here.

Please let Marcus or a committee member know if you have trouble downloading or opening the document.

In general, as per the last AGM, no Club 500 boat can be run on the pond before 14.15 on each Club meeting day. All Club 500 events will therefore begin at that time.

When sailing, utmost consideration must be given to the safety of the resident wildlife on the pond at all times. Club decisions as to whether to run a multi-boat race on any given day or the need to possibly revert to a timed steering competition will also be made accordingly.

PLEASE NOTE

AMBC members have adopted Club 500 boats as a way of providing a bit of fun through a series of racing and steering competitions. Club 500 uses boats to a common design and construction, and these are available as a kit, from:
