our club insurance dictates that uncertificated steam-powered models may not sail on the pond under club auspices, and are not covered by club insurance.

 

Steam Boiler Testing

Committee Meeting 29 May 2014

 

The Committee and Steam Boiler Testing Group  met on the evening of 29th May 2014 to clarify and update the Club regulations regarding steam boiler testing.

Present T.Robertson, W. Wallace, P. Mc Walter, R. Hollands, J. Stewart and M. Bowman.

The meeting expressed its thanks and gratitude to J. Chalmedrs for his regulations , which currently form the clubs stringent testing regime. In light of the requirements laid down in the document: -

Examination and Testing of Miniature Steam Boilers 2012 and all subsequent updates

Current Steam Testing Arrangements

Steam boiler testing regulations will follow the guidelines laid down in the examination and testing of minature boilers [ETMSB] document.

[Any additional testing will only have been but in place to increase the level of safety requirements.]

1. All steam boilers failing within the scope of the 3 Bar liter rule will be tested as per the ETMSB document.

2. Non - certified boilers will be subject to a an initial hydraulic test.

3.Commercially obtained boilers with certification and boilers with certification from recognized clubs will be exempt from the initial test.

4.A hydraulic test will be carried out every five years on ALL boilers.

5.A steam test will be carried out yearly as per ETMS regulations.

6. All gas fired boiler systems must comply with the gas out first regulations as per ETMSB.

A  Copy of the ETMSB document will be available in the Clubhouse and an electronic copy may be downloaded by clicking HERE.

It is strongly advised that all current and potential users of steam boilers make themselves familiar with these ETMSB regulations.

In addition , and with immediate effect , to comply with Health and Safety regulations, Steam -powered craft can no longer be sailed on the club portable pond at public events.
